Launch the free and lightweight Keyfinder tool and it will automatically analyze the Windows Registry. It does this with a very clear goal in mind: to uncover software license keys. If it finds any keys, Keyfinder will display them on its interface. That is, in a nutshell, the functionality you can expect to get from this application.

Keyfinder is available for Windows and for Mac OS X. The steps you must go through to install Keyfinder on a Windows PC are presented in the Quick Look video that accompanies this article. Please note that during the installation process you will be invited to install the Linkey browser add-on and set Default-Search.net as your homepage and new tab page. Make sure to opt put if you don’t want any add-ons and if you don’t want to change your homepage.

Keyfinder’s interface is divided into two sections: the one on the left displays a list of applications; select an application from the list, and the application’s license info will be presented by the panel on the right hand side. Above these two panels there’s a traditional File Menu.

When you launch Keyfinder, it automatically scans the Windows Registry, detects installed applications, and collects their license info. Keyfinder can recover license keys for the Windows operating system, for the Office productivity suite, and for many other programs. As the developer explained, Keyfinder provides support for more than 300 programs – it can get the license keys for more than 300 programs.

When you close Keyfinder, you are presented with a prompt that invites you to check out Recover Keys. This utility provides support for more than 6,500 programs, it can scan remote network PCs, and it can scan files for product keys.

Keyfinder is free software. Recover Keys is not.

Launch Keyfinder and it will find the license key for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and many other programs.

Pros

Keyfinder is available for Windows and for Mac OS X. There is nothing complicated about installing Keyfinder on a Windows PC. The dual-pane interface is quite easy to navigate. Keyfinder provides support for more than 300 programs. Keyfinder is free software.

Cons

During the installation process you will be invited to install the Linkey browser add-on and set Default-Search.net as your homepage and new tab page.
